Deck staining

Deck Staining and Sealing in Winnipeg

Jet Set washes, stains and seals wood decks across Winnipeg, in-house, with the same crew that does the wash. Cedar and pressure-treated decks are cleaned with a wood cleaner and low pressure, left to dry for a few days, then stained or sealed with a product chosen for Manitoba sun and freeze-thaw. Fences get the same treatment. The season runs May to September on dry stretches. Send a photo of the deck and Jordan replies with a price within a few hours.

What we do on the job

Wash first, always

Wood cleaner and low pressure lift grey fibres, algae and old loose finish without furring the grain. Then the deck dries for two to four days.

Stain or seal

Clear sealer to keep new cedar looking new, semi-transparent stain to show the grain and add colour, or solid stain to cover an older deck evenly. Railings, stairs and skirting included.

Fence staining

Wood fences washed and stained on the same visit, the one job most people put off longest.

What we tell you first

Old solid stain that is peeling needs stripping before anything new will hold. If a deck is past staining, we say so rather than coat a problem.

  • So great to deal with . Fast , reliable , awesome work and personable crew! They helped us in the winter with a frozen bathroom vent and recently with spring outdoor cleaning of windows and patio. My daughter noticed as she came up to the house !
  • Clear and quick communication (reply to email within hours, during weekend), quick turnaround time (services booked, quoted, and rendered within 48 hrs), quality work (not rushed). Reasonable pricing. Friendly/polite staff.
  • Reasonably priced, fast service, and well done work. I requested a quote yesterday, and windows were washed today for a lot less than I thought they would be. My windows were very noticeably cleaner and shiny.

Decks in a Winnipeg climate

Winnipeg decks get a hard year: summer sun that bleaches cedar grey in two seasons, then freeze and thaw that opens checks in every board. Unsealed pressure-treated wood from a new build goes grey by its second summer. A sealed or stained deck sheds water instead of soaking it, which is what keeps the boards from splitting at minus thirty. Staining needs the wood dry and two rain-free days, so most Winnipeg deck jobs land in June, July and August, and the schedule moves with the forecast.

What it costs in Winnipeg

Every quote is for your property, so the price moves with:

  • Square footage of deck, plus railings, stairs and skirting
  • Wood type and condition: new cedar, grey pressure-treated, or old peeling stain that needs stripping
  • Stain type: clear sealer, semi-transparent or solid colour
  • Fences and pergolas done at the same time

Send the address and our team strives to reply with a price within hours, not days. Request a quote or text a photo to (204) 990-7790.

  3. 3

    Wash, dry, stain

Two visits: the wash, then the stain once the wood is dry and the forecast is clear.

Questions Winnipeg customers ask

How often should a deck be stained in Winnipeg?

Every two to three years for a semi-transparent stain on a sunny deck, longer for solid stain and for shaded decks. Clear sealers need redoing more often, usually yearly on full sun.

Do you wash the deck before staining?

Always. Stain over grey or dirty wood peels within a season. The wash is part of the job, and the deck dries for a few days before staining.

Can you stain a brand new deck?

New pressure-treated wood should weather for a few months before sealing so it accepts the product. New cedar can be sealed sooner. We advise on timing when we see it.

Do you stain fences?

Yes. Wood fences are washed and stained the same way, often on the same visit as the deck.
